1968 AMC Javelin AMX 1:24 Racing Champions










El AMC Javelin es un automóvil estadounidense de dos puertas y capota rígida, equipado con motor delantero y tracción trasera. Fue fabricado por American Motors Corporation (AMC) en dos generaciones, con una gama de modelos para los años 1968-1970 y otra para los años 1971-1974. El automóvil se comercializó en el segmento del mercado estadounidense denominado pony car.

Diseñado por Dick Teague, el Javelin estaba disponible en una gran variedad de niveles de equipamiento y motor, desde versiones pony car relativamente económicas, hasta variantes deportivas enmarcadas en la clase de los muscle cars. La mayor parte de los Javelin se fabricaron en la factoría de Kenosha, pero también se ensamblaron bajo licencia en Alemania, México, Filipinas, Venezuela y Australia, y se comercializaron a nivel mundial.

Ganador de la serie de carreras Trans-Am en 1971, 1972 y 1976, la variante AMX de segunda generación fue el primer pony car que se utilizó como vehículo policial estándar de las patrullas de carretera en los Estados Unidos.
El Javelin permitió la introducción de la compañía American Motors en el mercado de los pony cars, un segmento generado por el exitoso lanzamiento del Ford Mustang, aunque no fuese el primer vehículo de este tipo en ser presentado.​ El diseño del Javelin evolucionó a partir de dos prototipos denominados AMX, que se presentaron en el circuito de exhibición "Proyecto IV" de AMC durante 1966.​ Uno era el "AMX" (la versión de dos asientos con carrocería de fibra de vidrio) y el otro era el "AMX II" (con cuatro asientos). Ambos diseños reflejaban la estrategia de la compañía de despojarse de su imagen de "automóvil económico" y atraer a un mercado más joven y orientado a coches de mejor rendimiento.

Las ventas de convertibles estaban cayendo, y AMC carecía por entonces de los recursos necesarios para diseñar una versión con portón trasero y otra de tres volúmenes, opciones que sí estaban disponibles en el Mustang y en el Plymouth Barracuda de segunda generación, por lo que el equipo de diseño de AMC dirigido por Dick Teague concibió un único estilo de carrocería, descrita como "una suave línea del techo con una solución a medio camino entre un portón y un maletero ayudó a diferenciar al Javelin de otros automóviles de tipo pony".

El Javelin se construyó sobre la plataforma "compacta" del Rambler American "junior", diseñado exclusivamente como un modelo de capota rígida de dos puertas ideado para ser un pony car "moderno", elegante y asequible, también disponible en versiones muscle car de alto rendimiento.​ "A pesar de la insistencia de los gerentes de la compañía en cosas como un buen espacio disponible en el maletero y en el asiento trasero, Teague logró dotar al Javelin de lo que él denominó el aspecto de 'camiseta mojada': curvas voluptuosas sin una pizca de 'gordura'."

1974 AMC Gremlin X 1:24 Motormax Fresh Cherries

The AMC Gremlin (also American Motors Gremlin) is a subcompact automobile introduced in 1970, manufactured and marketed in a single, two-door body style (1970–1978) by American Motors Corporation (AMC), as well as in Mexico (1974–1978) by AMC's Vehículos Automotores Mexicanos (VAM) subsidiary.

Using a shortened Hornet platform and bodywork with a pronounced kammback tail, the Gremlin was classified as an economy car and competed with the Chevrolet Vega and Ford Pinto, as well as imported cars including the Volkswagen Beetle and Toyota Corolla. The small domestic automaker marketed the Gremlin as "the first American-built import."

The Gremlin reached a total production of 671,475 over a single generation—and was superseded by a restyled and revised variant, the AMC Spirit.
1974:
The Arab Oil Embargo of October 1973 came just as the 1974 model year began. AMC improved the Gremlin's back seat. A deeper front fascia made the car appear longer. A larger front bumper was mounted on self-restoring telescoping gas and oil cylinders. Unlike most other designs, the Gremlin did not use a filler panel between the bumper and body. A stronger rear bumper was set lower—front and rear passenger car bumpers were now required by NHTSA to have uniform heights, take angle impacts, and sustain 5-mile-per-hour (8 km/h) impacts with no damage. The rear fascia was modified slightly to blend with the design changes. The Gremlin X stripe pattern was given a "hockey stick" look for 1974: the stripes followed the window line as it tapered aft, and swept up now to include four diagonal lines on the wide C-pillar. A new typeface for nameplates was used by AMC for 1974, including on the Gremlin. With the car's 1974 model year extended into November to delay the need to install catalytic converters required by United States Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) 2004 regulations starting with 1975 models, AMC sold 171,128 1974 Gremlins, an increase of nearly 40% over 1973 and 130% over 1971.

The Gremlin reached a total production of 671,475 over a single generation. It was superseded by a restyled and revised variant, the AMC Spirit produced from 1979 through 1983. This was long after the retirement of the Ford Pinto that suffered from stories about exploding gas tanks, as well as the Chevrolet Vega with its rusting bodies and durability problems with its aluminum engine.
